Unit Mission and Objectives: The Obstetrics and Gynecology department is committed to providing exceptional clinical services in both general and specialized areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology for women in central Virginia. In addition to clinical excellence, the department is dedicated to offering comprehensive medical education at both undergraduate and graduate levels, while also advancing the field through innovative research initiatives. Position Overview:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking qualified candidates to provide specialized OB/GYN care, particularly in Complex Family Planning, which includes managing early pregnancy loss, contraception, and family planning services. This area represents a significant clinical need in central Virginia and its neighboring regions. The role encompasses both inpatient and outpatient consultations, performing therapeutic procedures across various clinical settings, and collaborating with other healthcare facilities. Additionally, the position involves engaging in the education of students and residents, as well as contributing to the department's research efforts.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Education: Actively participate in the educational initiatives of the department, focusing on the training of students and residents in obstetrics, gynecology, and family planning.
  • Research: Initiate and lead clinical research projects, collaborate on departmental research efforts, and contribute to scholarly publications and presentations.
  • Service: Serve on various departmental, health system, and university committees as needed, while also engaging in professional activities within the field.
  • Clinical Duties: Fully engage in the clinical responsibilities of the Complex Family Planning section, as determined by the division and section chiefs, which includes outpatient clinics, inpatient care, surgical procedures, and participation in on-call duties.
  • Administrative Tasks: Involvement in departmental and institutional administrative functions as directed by leadership.
Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in promoting a diverse environment for faculty, staff, and students or a commitment to achieving this at VCU.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia.
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Completion of an accredited fellowship program in Complex Family Planning.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly contributions or creative endeavors relevant to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency program.
  • Proven skills and experience in teaching, research, and patient care.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of OB/GYN in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of OB/GYN in Complex Family Planning.
