Desktop Support Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Desktop Support Technician to join our team in Columbus, OH. As a Desktop Support Technician, you will provide comprehensive workstation support, both hands-on and remotely, while collaborating with other Support Center analysts and Senior Technicians.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Resolve escalated calls in the Call Tracking system and take primary responsibility for client workstation support.
  • Provide hands-on and remote workstation support services, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Collaborate with Support Center analysts and Senior Technicians to understand workstation support needs and develop effective solutions.
  • Manage hardware and software deployments, including creating software images and leading or participating in hardware and software deployments.
  • Handle hardware and software procurement and disposal, ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained and disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Manage print server queues and network printers, ensuring that all printing needs are met efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure completion of tasks and maintain proper communication with clients for all work in progress.
  • Provide on-call level-2 support, operating the Support Center for approximately 40-80 hours annually to maintain awareness and enhance operations.
  • Operate support outposts in client areas, balancing client demand for services with available resources.
  • Participate in Support Center planning functions, recording all support activities for accurate measurement of support business.
Requirements:
  • Experience with technology in a business environment, including Help Desk Support, data communications/networks, and application environments (mainframe, workgroup, and desktop).
  • Proficient in customer service functions such as workstation support, with a focus on providing exceptional service to clients.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with MAC and Windows and Lotus SmartSuite application software, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to determine the criticality of incoming requests and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Fundamental understanding of word processing, spreadsheet, and terminal emulation products for proper problem diagnosis.
  • Ability to translate technical terms into non-technical language, ensuring that clients understand complex technical issues.
  • Understanding of computer terms and acronyms, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Ability to learn new processes and procedures, with a focus on staying up-to-date with the latest technology trends and advancements.
