Position Title: Afterschool Care Teacher

Department: After School Care

Job Summary: We are looking for a dedicated and caring individual to serve as an afterschool care teacher at Midland Christian School. This role is essential in creating a secure and supportive atmosphere for students during after-school hours. As an afterschool care educator, you will help uphold our institution's mission by nurturing an environment that embodies Christian values.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the After School Care Program Director.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience in a leadership capacity within an educational or childcare environment is preferred.
  • Strong grasp of Christian principles and a commitment to incorporating them into program activities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask, resolve problems, and make informed decisions in a dynamic setting.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience working with young children, especially in preschool or early childhood education.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Reliable transportation is necessary.

Physical and Mental Demands

The afterschool care teacher is responsible for ensuring the safety of children during activities, which involves physical tasks such as supervising play and organizing spaces. Preparedness for emergencies, including administering basic first aid, is essential. Mentally, the role requires attentiveness to children's needs and behaviors, multitasking to assist with homework and coordinate activities, and calmly resolving conflicts while integrating Christian values. Emotionally, the position demands empathy, patience, and resilience to support children's emotional growth and maintain positive interactions, fostering an environment that reflects Christian principles of care and compassion.

Classification

This is a non-exempt, part-time position, typically scheduled Monday through Friday, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Exact hours may vary based on school needs and activities.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Supervision and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times during afterschool hours.
  2. Activity Coordination: Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, games, and crafts that promote physical, social, and emotional development.
  3. Homework Assistance: Provide support to students in completing homework assignments and offer academic help as needed.
  4. Snack Management: Oversee snack time, ensuring that snacks comply with school policies, including considerations for allergies and dietary restrictions.
  5. Communication: Maintain effective communication with parents, teachers, and school administration regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  6. Spiritual Guidance: Integrate Christian values into daily activities and interactions with students, fostering spiritual growth and character development.
  7. Cleanliness: Ensure that the afterschool care area is kept clean, organized, and safe at all times.
