Communication Specialist in Educational Settings

Position Overview:
The Communication Specialist plays a vital role within the Special Programs team, collaborating with educational leaders, campus administrators, and instructional staff to enhance student success.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Communication Specialist, you will:

  • Establish high expectations for student performance and engage families in the educational process.
  • Create an enriching learning atmosphere and implement targeted therapy to bridge communication and academic skill gaps.
  • Evaluate communication disorders, monitor student progress towards established goals, and utilize data to refine therapeutic interventions.
  • Work closely with the Lead Communication Specialist to ensure effective service delivery.

Location:
This is a full-time, on-site role.

Accountabilities:
Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to guarantee comprehensive implementation of speech therapy services.
  • Collaborating with parents and educators to develop IEPs that align with instructional goals.
  • Tracking student progress and adjusting therapy plans as necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with annual review timelines and facilitating meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conducting assessments to identify students with communication challenges and determining eligibility for services.
  • Maintaining detailed records of therapy sessions and progress reports.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess:

  • A Master's degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited institution.
  • A valid state license as a Communication Specialist.
  • National Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Experience with students in educational settings is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be able to:

  • Engage in activities that may include lifting, climbing, and working in various environments.
  • Support students physically when necessary.
