Key Responsibilities
  • Prevent Emergencies: Continuously scan the pool area to identify potential hazards and take proactive measures to prevent accidents.
  • Recognize and Respond to Emergencies: Swiftly recognize and respond to emergencies or potential incidents, providing assistance and care as needed.
  • Activate Emergency Protocols: Know and activate the branch and pool emergency action plan (EAP) when necessary.
  • Perform Assists and Rescues: Perform assists or rescues as needed, providing care and support to individuals in distress.
  • Provide Care and Support: Provide care, including CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen, as needed.
  • Complete Incident Reports: Accurately and thoroughly complete incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Enforce Pool Rules: Enforce pool rules and regulations, handling issues professionally and consistently.
  • Maintain a Clean and Safe Environment: Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times, participating in cleaning and testing activities when not on duty.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and consistent communication with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Participate in Training and Development: Participate in all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings to stay up-to-date on safety protocols and best practices.
  • Adhere to YMCA Policies: Adhere to all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to safety, security, and member services.
Requirements
  • Age: At least 16 years of age.
  • Physical Demands: Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff, able to scan the pool visually, and may be required to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Training and Certifications: Possess or obtain the following certifications: Child Abuse Prevention, Respect in the Workplace (Sexual Harassment Prevention), The Professional Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, O2, and YMCA Lifeguarding.
