The EH&S Specialist will possess extensive knowledge of compliance programs and, where applicable, specialized areas such as Industrial Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Safety Engineering, and Risk Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure timely reporting of necessary EH&S information to relevant regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports as required, ensuring compliance with local and state EH&S regulations.
  • Review and monitor investigations related to injuries, illnesses, non-injury incidents, and near-misses to ensure effectiveness and identification of root causes.
  • Lead inquiries into significant adverse events.
  • Analyze EH&S performance metrics and initiate corrective actions to address trends.
  • Provide high-quality technical support and training in EH&S matters. Design and conduct comprehensive EH&S training programs.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to ensure adherence to established rules and procedures. Develop and manage an internal audit program to evaluate compliance with legal and organizational standards, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate the execution of job safety analyses and risk assessments.
  • Establish site-specific EH&S policies, objectives, key performance indicators, and targets that align with organizational goals and local needs.
  • Review proposed changes, including capital projects and new product introductions, to identify potential EH&S concerns and facilitate their resolution.
  • Maintain local EH&S Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that accurately reflect the site's EH&S management system.
  • Promote a robust safety culture throughout the organization and encourage active participation in EH&S initiatives.
  • Coordinate local business continuity, emergency response, and crisis management strategies. Develop and conduct realistic scenario-based tests of these plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in health and safety within a research and development pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in Chemical safety, laboratory safety, machinery safety, electrical safety, and fire safety is required.
  • ISO 14001 or 45001 Lead or Internal Auditor certification is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications such as CHMM, CIH, or CSP are preferred.
  • Experience in managing hazardous waste programs is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret federal and state OSHA regulations in detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
