Job Title: Surgical Technologist

Geisinger Health System is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons with procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure seamless treatment plans.
  • Provide basic patient assistance, connecting patients to clinical equipment as needed.
  • Practice aseptic techniques, preparing for surgery and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Participate in surgical Time Out and operating room briefing, ensuring accurate identification of surgical sites.
  • Maintain accurate accounts of supplies, verifying counts with the circulating nurse.
  • Prepare, identify, and verify all specimens obtained during surgical procedures.
  • Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps in appropriate containers.
  • Assess wounds and apply or change sterile dressings as instructed by the registered nurse.
  • Maintain and document universal precautions, initiating emergency procedures as needed.
  • Participate in the admission and discharge process, performing billing as appropriate.
  • Act as a preceptor for students assigned to the surgical unit.
  • Adhere to all policies, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Perform quality control monitoring and additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Graduate from a Specialty Training Program.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
  • Be certified as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
