Key Responsibilities:
Utilize the nursing process to deliver exceptional patient care. Stay informed about unit practices, trends, and relevant technologies. Coordinate daily procedures, ensuring all necessary resources are available for your specialty. Exhibit proficiency across all staffing roles and provide technical support within your specialty area. Assist colleagues by prioritizing actions and anticipating patient care needs. Deliver direct patient care through the application of the nursing process, consistently gathering and analyzing patient data. Document initial assessments, ongoing evaluations, and patient responses.
Develop, update, and document care plans, including discharge planning, in collaboration with patients, their families, and healthcare providers.
Demonstrate expertise in administering and monitoring complex therapeutic interventions, becoming a sought-after resource for others.
Participate in identifying and resolving quality improvement issues related to patient care. Implement interventions that uphold patient dignity, privacy, and safety.Provide leadership within the department to achieve organizational goals. Facilitate ongoing activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Maintain accountability and knowledge of departmental objectives while promoting a positive, supportive, and collegial environment. Assist in developing and monitoring program outcomes, recommending enhancements as necessary. Coordinate departmental orientation, continuing education, and clinical development initiatives. Monitor and report compliance with departmental policies and procedures, evaluating team performance and offering constructive feedback. Be prepared to take on leadership roles and manage emergency situations effectively.
Assist in implementing performance improvement initiatives. Operationalize the Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement (QI/PI) program for the department. Facilitate staff education and participation in QI/PI activities. Communicate customer satisfaction results consistently, recommending and implementing plans to enhance satisfaction. Investigate departmental incidents and incorporate changes into practice, mentoring others in the process. Identify opportunities for quality improvement, participating in the design and implementation of these processes.
Assist in the selection and management of resources for your specialty area. Participate in personnel selection and supervision, contributing to performance appraisals. Help develop departmental schedules and manage daily staffing operations. Oversee staff assignments and patient throughput, investigating budgetary variances and documenting staffing discrepancies. Provide input for the annual budget process while monitoring departmental cost-containment efforts and implementing strategies to reduce operational costs.
Exhibit effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Foster a professional work environment that is supportive and free from disruptive behavior. Practice compassion and respect in all professional relationships, recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of every individual. Follow the Chain of Command for assistance with unresolved issues and conflict resolution. Seek and provide constructive feedback, engaging in peer-to-peer feedback and mediation as necessary. Promote effective conflict resolution practices.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required; a Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
A Master’s degree in a health-related field with certification in a nursing specialty may be considered in lieu of a Master’s in Nursing.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in the specialty area is required, with three (3) years as a Registered Nurse preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a Compact state is required.
BLS (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider is mandatory.
Certification in a clinical specialty, as defined by National Certification requirements, is required within two (2) years of assuming the RN Specialty Coordinator position.

PALS | Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is preferred.
