Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Respiratory Care Manager to join our team at University of California, Davis Health. As a key member of our Respiratory Department, you will be responsible for providing administrative, technical, and clinical direction for our Respiratory Care Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Respiratory Care Department, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and quality standards.
  • Provide clinical direction and oversight to respiratory care staff, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Current and valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner License and RRT certification.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification within 6 months.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a science or business field, or comparable work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an RCP/RRT in an Acute Care Hospital, with extensive ICU experience preferably in a teaching facility.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
  • Knowledge of the clinical and scientific basis and effects of Respiratory Care procedures, equipment, and medications.
  • Ability to collect data and reports for the JC and the California Department of Public Health.
  • Skill to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
  • Supervisory experience, including staff evaluation and scheduling, preferred.
  • Understanding of performance improvement techniques.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communication that is professional in both verbal and written languages to visitors, patients, and other healthcare providers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, nurses, physicians, and other department managers and hospital personnel.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work on the computer for several hours each day.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate Degree.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Prior outpatient respiratory experience.
  • Prior experience and demonstrated abilities in performance improvement processes.
Physical Demands

This position requires standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, reaching overhead, and keyboard use/repetitive motion. The work environment is loud, with uneven surfaces or elevations, and requires sustained attention and concentration, complex problem-solving/reasoning, ability to organize and prioritize, communication skills, numerical skills, constant interaction, customer/patient contact, and multiple concurrent tasks.

Special Requirements

This is a critical position, as defined by UC policy and local procedures, and as such, employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), including but not limited to criminal record history background check(s). This position is designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy, and employment is contingent on compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and training requirements.
