About the Position

Sankofa Community Development Corporation (Sankofa CDC) is seeking an experienced and dynamic fundraising professional to join our team as the Director of Advancement. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to actively build a new chapter for Sankofa CDC alongside our leadership team.

The Director of Advancement will be responsible for the leadership, direction, and operations of Sankofa CDC's fundraising initiatives. They will plan, execute, and achieve both long and short-term contributed income goals through the annual fund, corporate and foundation support, special events, campaigns, and major gifts.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic spokesperson for Sankofa CDC's mission, vision, and values for both internal and external constituents. They will work closely with our Board of Directors, CEO, and staff to expand and deepen existing donor relationships while implementing creative approaches to expand our supporter base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve short- and long-term goals.
  • Lead and manage a team of development professionals to achieve fundraising objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, prospects, and stakeholders.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and multi-year gift prospects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase organizational capacity and maintain a collaborative, best practices department.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or five years of progressively responsible experience as a development professional.
  • Successful track record in direct fundraising, managing campaigns, communications, and working with volunteers.
  • Application of broad institutional perspective, collaborative mindset, excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic insight with ability to analyze organizational issues and develop strategic plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree is preferred. In-depth experience in campaign management and fundraising is preferred.
