Middlebury College is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team. As a Custodian, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our campus facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Clean and maintain all interior and exterior components of college facilities, including contents, floors, and equipment.
- Inspect, operate, and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Move and reset furniture on a routine basis for new or normal set-ups, including events based on provided diagrams and instructions.
- Follow established protocols and provided training to effectively and safely clean up substances potentially containing bloodborne pathogens.
- Collect and remove all trash, recycling, and compost, ensuring that spaces are outfitted with appropriate bins and signage to encourage effective sorting.
- Conduct routine inspections of building components and safety devices following established department protocols and/or regulatory requirements.
- Use, order, and restock supplies in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Work cooperatively with others and accept direction from team liaisons and supervisors.
- No formal education or training required; high school education preferred; on-the-job training provided.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
- Demonstrates professional communication skills with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, and the rest of the College community and supply/equipment vendors.
- Ability to develop and follow a schedule and demonstrates excellent time management skills.
- Must be able to read and accurately interpret floor plans and accurately execute event diagrams and associated written instructions.
