Job Overview
Position Summary
A Combination Welder is responsible for welding, fabricating, and assisting pipe fitters in the installation of various types of industrial piping systems.
Key Qualifications
- Proficient in welding under 2g, 4g, and 6g conditions.
- Skilled in SMAW (Stick) and Carbon Steel Pipe welding, as well as GTAW (Tig) for Carbon & Stainless Pipe.
- Possession of current applicable welding certification or ability to pass a weld test.
- A minimum of 4 years of welding experience is required.
- Must demonstrate all necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Ability to meet all physical demands of the role.
Responsibilities
- Choose equipment and plan layouts, assembly, and welding, utilizing knowledge of geometry and physical properties of metals.
- Layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components in various body positions and locations.
- Secure parts in position for welding using bolts, clamps, and tack-welds.
- Set up equipment and perform welding using various methods including arc and gas-shielded arc welding.
- Weld metal materials to piping systems using appropriate procedures for different equipment and metal types.
- Identify all necessary equipment for the job and process.
- Recognize all safety risks and requirements associated with the work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former employee of Zachry or Zachry ROF.
- Experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Prior experience in this role with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Current Zachry Certification.
- Experience as an Industrial Pipe Fitter.
- Previous work on a Combined-Cycle power plant construction project.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, sit, and lift for extended periods.
- Effective communication through talking and hearing is required.
- Use of arms and hands for signaling, grabbing, holding, turning, pushing, and pulling objects and tools.
- May need to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms with appropriate fall protection.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, masks, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
