Position Overview
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments.

To qualify, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria in line with VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within the designated timeframe following appointment.

Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Responsibilities
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT.

The position involves providing comprehensive outpatient orthopedic care, including both invasive and non-invasive procedures for scheduled and walk-in patients. The physician will be responsible for discussing the risks, benefits, and alternative treatments with patients, ensuring informed consent is obtained prior to any invasive procedures as per established policies and best practices.

The incumbent will report to the Chief of Orthopedics within the Surgical Services Department and will be tasked with delivering high-quality outpatient orthopedic care, including managing consults, referrals, and triage processes as clinically indicated.

Conditions of Employment
Applicants must be U.S. citizens; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable.

All candidates selected for VA employment in designated testing positions are subject to urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is required, and candidates may need to serve a probationary period. A background/security investigation will be conducted, and selected applicants must complete an online onboarding process and pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Additionally, participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required for all Veterans Health Administration HCP.

Qualifications
To qualify, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional criteria specified in the job announcement.

Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Current VA physicians who met the previous qualification standards at the time of their initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements for this position.

Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Medical Degree: Must possess a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
- Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical Requirements
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity.

Incumbents may face long periods of walking, standing, and other physical activities, including transferring patients and objects. Exposure to infectious patients and contaminated materials may occur, necessitating the use of protective clothing in certain situations.

Annual Employee Health requirements, such as TB screening, must be completed as a condition of employment.
