Job Summary

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a highly skilled Medical Instrument Technician to join our Diagnostic Imaging Service team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations and vascular studies to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations on multiple areas of the body, including the abdomen, pelvis, transvaginal, chest, small parts, thyroid, breast, and scrotum.
  • Conduct vascular studies such as renal artery, aortic aneurysm, portal-systemic shunts, and hemodialysis access.
  • Assist radiologists with biopsy procedures, determining the location, depth, and required needle angle for the lesion to be sampled.
  • Assist in surgical procedures and fluid aspirations.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must have a good knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory tests, and values.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

The selected candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to radiation. Must be able to lift and/or move over 50 pounds and wear gloves, mask, gown, and eye shields during specific procedures.

Education and Certification

A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are desirable.
