Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist

Role Summary:
The Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist is tasked with delivering essential AOD and various preventive services. This includes, but is not limited to, information dissemination, educational outreach, identification of issues, and referral services.
The prevention initiatives at Riveon Mental Health and Recovery encompass a variety of programs such as Botvin Lifeskills, Building Blocks, Eduvention Juvenile Diversion, Carevention Family Intervention, Comprehensive School Prevention, Drug-Free Workplace Safety Programs, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Parent to Parent educational support, Staff and Parent trainings, and Teen Support Groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide preventive services in both community and educational settings.
- Maintain accurate records of services in the prevention log.
- Complete and submit all necessary reports and billing statements for each service rendered.
- Administer and compile outcome and satisfaction surveys.
- Follow up with referral sources after each service.
- Develop or adapt prevention curricula to meet community needs.
- Represent the agency at educational booths during community events and health/wellness fairs.
- Support treatment programs as needed.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) data collection and implement corrective actions as assigned.
- Engage in monthly Utilization Review and Peer Review Programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
General Requirements:
Adherence to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board's Code of Ethics is essential. A solid understanding of addiction as a health condition is required. The ability to collaborate effectively with agency personnel, external contacts, and a diverse clientele is crucial. Candidates must demonstrate the capability to work independently as well as part of a team to foster a supportive environment for clients. Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills are mandatory. Proficiency in computer usage is also required.
Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience in addiction prevention or related fields involving youth and/or families is necessary.
Educational Background:
An Associate Degree or significant progress towards an Associate Degree with a focus on Addictions Treatment and Prevention or an equivalent qualification is required. A Bachelor's Degree or higher is preferred.
Certification:
Eligibility for Registered Applicant endorsement is required. Preference will be given to candidates with OCSPA or higher credentials.
If the candidate is a Registered Applicant, they must obtain OCPSA Prevention certification within two years of employment.
Travel Requirements: Moderate travel is expected, primarily local, based on assigned school systems. Riveon Mental Health and Recovery will reimburse for business-related travel expenses.
Work Schedule: This is a Full-Time position. Some evening and occasional weekend work may be required.
Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with licensure and experience.
