The selected clinical pathologist will oversee all administrative, operational, technical, and clinical aspects related to the medical laboratory within their specialty, which includes hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry, microbiology, and Point of Care Testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with CLIA regulations as the laboratory director or designated representative.
  • Maintain quality service across all testing phases: preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic, tailored to the patient demographic.
  • Guarantee that the laboratory environment is suitable for the testing conducted.
  • Ensure a safe workplace for all employees, adhering to safety and biohazard protocols.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of testing personnel through a qualified general supervisor for high complexity testing.
  • Employ a sufficient number of trained and experienced personnel to deliver accurate test results and consultations.
  • Review and document new test procedures, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Be available for on-site, telephonic, or electronic consultations.
  • Document and address any necessary remedial actions.
  • Train personnel to guarantee the accuracy of results.
  • Maintain an approved procedure manual for the clinical laboratory.
  • Ensure compliance with JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation standards.
  • Contribute to the educational programs in clinical pathology for residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Engage in the effective utilization of laboratory testing.
  • Participate in the development of Diagnostic Management Teams.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and maintain academic productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of an M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Board certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.
  • Completion of fellowship training or equivalent experience in Clinical Pathology.
  • Eligibility or current licensure to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
