Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Los Angeles Community Hospital. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing venipuncture procedures for clinical or medical testing and transfusions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Procure blood samples from patients and label them accurately to preserve the integrity of specimens for proper transporting, processing, and preparation of all samples.
  • Review lab requisitions and perform quality review and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure adequate supplies and inventory, and perform all clerical functions, including data entry, maintaining records, answering phones, and providing reports.
  • Provide support and facilitate communications by effectively navigating computer and phone systems, building and maintaining customer relationships, and providing a positive, professional, and empathetic understanding to all customers.
  • Identify patient, observe the correct procedure for venipuncture, collect and label specimens exactly as outlined in each medical requisition.
  • Accurately print collection batch and labels for phlebotomy collections.
  • Adhere to infection control standards, properly handle each specimen, and ensure that every specimen is delivered to the laboratory in a timely manner per laboratory protocol.
  • Actively participate in departmental process improvement and adhere to turnaround time (TAT) guidelines for STAT and routine tests.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and regulatory standards.
Requirements
  • California Certified Phlebotomy Technician
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with lab/hospital computer systems and software
  • Applicable clinical lab work experience
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
