Phlebotomy Supervisor

The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of subordinate personnel in performing, routing, and specialized blood drawing techniques from patients and specimen processing/handling for laboratory procedures used in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and direct the work of phlebotomy staff to ensure efficient and effective blood collection and specimen processing.
- Monitor and evaluate blood drawing and specimen processing procedures to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
- Assure quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control measures are in place and adhered to.
- Evaluate collection equipment, techniques, and workflow patterns and prepare reports outlining recommendations and conclusions.
- Perform personnel actions, including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and work/vacation schedules.
- Monitor employee compliance with initial and annual competencies.
- Oversee the operation and performance of phlebotomy and processing staff and laboratory coordinator.
- Assess results and accomplishments of performance expectations and quality indicators for the Clinical Laboratory.
- Procure blood and other laboratory specimens from inpatients and outpatients.
- Adhere to established policies, procedures, and requirements of USC University Hospital and Clinical Laboratory Department.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, coworkers, and guests of the institution.
- High school or equivalent required.
- Specialized/technical training in Phlebotomy required.
- 5 years of experience in Phlebotomy required.
- Ability to utilize effective, appropriate, and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
- Able to function independently and as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Leading/guidance skills.
- 1 year of recommended phlebotomy lead/supervisory experience in an acute care setting.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH)
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City)
