TRIO Student Support Services Academic Advisor Job Summary

The Academic Advisor for TRIO Student Support Services will be responsible for assessing the financial, academic, and personal development needs of participants in the TRIO Student Support Services Project. This role will assist participants in developing plans to set and carry out goals, providing them with the support services necessary to ensure their success. The advisor will also provide instruction that enriches participants' personal and educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess the financial, academic, and personal development needs of TRIO Student Support Services participants.
  • Develop and implement plans to help participants achieve their goals.
  • Provide instruction and support services to ensure participants' success.
  • Coordinate the administration of comprehensive financial, academic, and personal development assessments.
  • Assist participants in interpreting assessment data and developing Individual Progress Plans.
  • Evaluate the success of participants and provide intervention when necessary.
  • Maintain detailed student records in compliance with federal mandates.
  • Provide financial literacy to students, including budgeting, financial aid, and credit management.
  • Co-advise the TRIO and Friends Club.
  • Coordinate and promote cultural events and transfer visit days for TRIO Student Support Services participants.
  • Recruit and advise TRIO Student Support Services participants, maintaining communication and relationships throughout their program.
  • Guide participants in career and pathway exploration, helping them devise well-informed academic and career plans.
  • Implement advising strategies that align with the TRIO Student Support Services goals and track student learning outcomes and achievements.
  • Participate in departmental operations, including program enrollment records, transfer reports, and strategic planning.

This role requires a Bachelor's degree in education, human services, psychology, or a related area, as well as a minimum of two years of experience working with the academic and developmental needs of students. A Master's degree in counseling, student affairs, education, or a related field is preferred. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience, work with diverse populations of college students, and have work or lived experience in at least one qualifying category for SSS.
