GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Engage in responsible and specialized duties focused on ensuring safety at aquatic facilities, enforcing established regulations, and preventing injuries at public pools. Responsibilities also include performing maintenance tasks to uphold a safe and healthy environment for all visitors.
KEY FEATURES OF THE ROLE
The primary responsibility of the Aquatic Safety Officer is to ensure pool safety and deliver exceptional customer service. Interaction with the public includes welcoming guests and assisting with various inquiries. Supervision is provided by the Park Operation Manager, with performance evaluated through regular report reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in enforcing safety rules and regulations at the assigned aquatic facility, monitoring activities and operations.
- Provide information to the public regarding policies, regulations, and aquatic programs; address complaints and escalate as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with pool rules; clearly communicate and display regulations for public visibility; maintain order within the facility.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, administering First Aid and CPR as required, and ensuring public safety during such incidents.
- Conduct routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, stocking restrooms, sanitizing, and maintaining pool cleanliness.
- Identify potential hazards through daily inspections of equipment and supplies; report findings to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records by preparing reports as required and submitting them timely.
- Participate in ongoing training and education, including in-service sessions and physical fitness drills.
- Promote water safety awareness through professional conduct and positive public relations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of aquatic safety principles, regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Familiarity with safety and rescue equipment usage and maintenance.
- Knowledge of aquatic facility maintenance and operational methods.
- Awareness of relevant policies for the Parks department and aquatic facilities.
- Comprehension of applicable laws and safety regulations concerning recreational facilities.
- Maintain a cooperative and positive demeanor while interacting with the public.
- Make sound decisions in various situations.
- Effectively apply First Aid, CPR, and AED techniques.
- Execute basic rescue techniques and emergency procedures.
- Respond courteously to public inquiries and concerns.
- Communicate effectively with individuals of all ages.
- Enforce facility rules with firmness and tact.
- Work flexible shifts as required.
- Reliable transportation.
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or equivalent.
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
Work primarily occurs outdoors in varying weather conditions, with exposure to natural elements. The role involves standing and may require lifting and moving objects, including individuals, as necessary.
Driving Requirements
This position may necessitate driving for county-related business. Valid driver's license and a clean driving record will be verified. If using a personal vehicle, proper insurance must be maintained as per county policy.
