Phlebotomist - Plasma Collection Specialist

As a Phlebotomist at CSL Plasma, you will play a critical role in the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. Your primary responsibility will be to perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the highest quality of plasma collection.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect, in compliance with SOPs.
- Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, adhering to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
- Evaluate vein performance of donors to identify potential issues and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
- Ensure the donation process is efficient and make adjustments as needed to provide a positive experience for donors.
- May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information.
- Maintain alertness to any donor reactions and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff as needed.
- Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
- Perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in SOPs, and respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, remove and/or replace equipment from service as needed.
- Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to ensure continuous turnover and alert Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
- Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
- Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs.
- Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.
- Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed, and follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Phlebotomist will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, and will be frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens. The ability to complete routine forms or conduct routine oral communications, understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions, and see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation is required.
