Job Summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as a Wound Care Specialist. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong clinical background and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, and implement wound care management for patients with complex wound or ostomy care needs.
  • Provide expert consultation, coordination of services, and education for patients and families, as well as the healthcare team.
  • Staff hospital, outpatient chronic wound clinics, home health/hospice in multiple locations throughout the region.
  • Determine and order appropriate topical products, compression therapy, sharp debridement, referrals to specialty providers, and labs and xrays under approved physician orders and protocols.
  • Organize and plan patients ostomy care and rehabilitation through assessment, examination, pre-and post-operative teaching, counseling, and recommending treatment and product use.
  • Act as an expert resource for staff and utilize knowledge in clinical areas of practice.
  • Consult with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in hospital, clinic, home health/hospice, and skilled nursing facilities regarding wound, ostomy, and continence management for individual patients.
  • Recommend treatment modalities to promote healing, contain drainage, and promote skin integrity.
  • Provide formal education of nursing, medical, and other healthcare staff regarding wound and ostomy management.
  • Educate team on financial implications of supply and equipment usage.
  • Develop state-of-the-art protocols, staff and patient written resources in collaboration with regional Wound supervisor and other KP CWOCNs.
  • Consult with local outpatient materials management, pharmacy, reception staff regarding issues related to the delivery of effective wound/ostomy/continence care.
Requirements
  • Minimum three (3) years of RN nursing experience in home care, long-term care, hospital, or clinic setting.
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Wound Ostomy Care Nurse Certificate required at hire.
  • Ability to travel between multiple offices, clinics, hospitals, and/or homes within the NW Region.
  • Thorough knowledge of current wound, ostomy, continence nursing practice.
  • Ability to complete concise, thorough clinical documentation of patient assessments and care.
  • Working knowledge of quality management and resource utilization methodologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of universal infection control.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Strong group presentation skills to facilitate provision of in-service training.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary team as a consultant and direct care provider.
  • Ability to proficiently operate personal computer.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years of CWOCN experience in home health, long-term care, hospital, or clinic.
  • Work experience at Kaiser Permanente.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and TJC regulations.
  • Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, digital photography.
