Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Event Host to join our team at the Santa Barbara Zoo. As an Event Host, you will be responsible for ensuring that events held at the Zoo are a wonderful, enjoyable, and safe experience for all concerned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts, professionally dressed and ready to begin work.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and composure at all times, as a representative of the Zoo.
  • Prepare electric carts for service, and operate carts according to Zoo policies and safety standards.
  • Inspect and prepare event sites upon arrival, and assist with setup as needed.
  • Escort deliveries and service providers from entrance gate to event site, and out to parking lot when they are through.
  • Set up for guests' arrival and tickets collection at front gate, and perform ticket count once guests have arrived.
  • Answer questions and direct guests as needed.
  • Collaborate with Zoo Catering Services and other service providers to ensure their needs are being met, and that Zoo policies and protocols are being adhered to.
  • Spot check cleanliness of restrooms, and clean up as needed.
  • Ensure proper and timely cleanup of all areas used by clients and service providers.
  • Manage flow of traffic to and from event areas in conjunction with other Event Hosts on duty and front gate staff, as necessary.
  • Inspect property at end of event for damage, lost items, and other discrepancies, and report any issues to Events Coordinator and Event Supervisor.
  • Fill out Host Report at end of each event, detailing event and any problems that arose.
  • Submit event report to Events Coordinator or Events Supervisor at end of every evening event.
  • Maintain order and ensure adherence to safety rules/protocols.
  • Handle emergency situations in a professional manner and according to Zoo policy and protocols.
  • Perform occasional collateral office duties, such as stuffing envelopes, as required.
  • Adhere to Zoo's policies and procedures as outlined in Employee Policy Manual.
  • Ensure that Zoo rules, policies, and protocols are being adhered to by all concerned.
  • Apply and exemplify 'green' practices whenever possible.
  • Attend all events-specific safety and operation training.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Support Zoo Special Events, including Roar & Pour, Zoo Brew, and Boo at the Zoo.
  • Greet every guest with a smile.
  • Thank guests for supporting/visiting the Zoo.
  • Ensure Zoo's presentation standards for cleanliness and maintenance are met by keeping work areas clean, picking up trash, and reporting unsafe or unsightly conditions.
  • Associate with guests to share information, identify their needs, and make their experience a more personal one, providing a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Respond to all guest inquiries, complaints, and comments according to Zoo guest relations procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance and adhere to Zoo's uniform dress code.
  • Take responsibility to stay informed about happenings at the Zoo, such as reading employee communications and attending Zoo meetings.
  • Reflect the qualities outlined in Guest Relations Statement and Employee Pledge.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required.
