Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Refugee Services Coordinator to join our team at the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in providing essential services to refugees and asylum seekers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management: Assist refugees and asylum seekers with case management and training related to the Services to Older Refugees Program (SORP) Program.
  • Benefits Assistance: Help clients with paperwork for DSS & SSI benefits and subsidized housing.
  • Health Services: Make doctors' appointments and bring clients to appointments, if necessary.
  • Education and Employment: Enroll clients in ESL & Citizenship classes and get their N-648 if needed.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain case files and relevant databases.
  • Reporting: Submit written reports as required.
  • Cross-Cultural Support: Provide cross-cultural information and support to employers.
  • Community Orientation: Orient refugee clients to community resources.
  • Network Development: Work to connect clients with supportive community networks and support systems to ensure their long-term integration in the community.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Ensure that refugees are being served in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner and provide education and advocacy when necessary.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Human Services, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate well, build relationships, and partner with USCRI clients, partner agencies, state and federal program staff, headquarters, and field office staff.
  • Language Skills: Preference will be given to those who have the skill to understand, speak, read, and write Dari and Pashto languages.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and database programs, as needed.
  • Work Environment: Pleasant work demeanor and the ability to get along with others and thrive in a team environment.
  • Commitment: Demonstrated commitment to the mission of USCRI and interest in contributing to the long-term success of a local nonprofit organization.
  • Driver's License: Must have a clean, valid driver's license and insurance, and a reliable motor vehicle.
  • Confidentiality: Demonstrated support of USCRI's values by exhibiting respect for others, maintaining confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
Training and Development
  • Orientation and Training: Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
  • Additional Training: Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.
