Job Title: Culinary Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Culinary Assistant to join our team at Northgate Markets, Inc. As a Culinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our meat department, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in receiving and unloading merchandise, including checking and verifying product receiving to ensure accuracy.
  • Take stock to storage or shelf areas, following pre-determined schematics and production forecasts.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Wait on customers, including slicing, cutting, weighing, packaging, and labeling merchandise.
  • Assist in preparation of food products and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures, including reading all Safety Committee bulletins.
  • Assist in training associates when assigned and maintain good communications with co-workers and throughout the organization.
Requirements and Conditions:
  • Ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken word in English to respond promptly to pages for assistance and accommodate verbal requests from customers.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency to read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies, and procedures.
  • Be fully knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with all of the various cuts and types of meat products sold in the department, including recommended uses or cooking methods and store/department procedures, policies, and operations.
Work Environment:
  • The work environment includes occasional exposure to low temperatures and frequent exposure to or near heated ovens and high temperatures.
  • Access to break rooms, offices, and all employee restrooms require ascending/descending a flight of stairs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
