Job Summary:

Seaboard Marine is seeking a highly skilled Compensation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for administering compensation and benefits programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and providing exceptional support to employees and management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer compensation and benefits programs, including market pricing, equity analysis, and pay range recommendations.
  • Perform complex analysis and review utilization and experience data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make timely recommendations for change.
  • Research new hire offers to ensure alignment with internal pay strategy and audit pay practices to ensure compliance with wage and hour laws and regulations.
  • Develop job descriptions and conduct job analyses, including exemption classification testing, to ensure accurate job evaluation and assignment of suitable band levels.
  • Create new positions as needed and provide market salary benchmarks.
  • Prepare annual compensation and benefits plans budgets and propose adjustments as needed.
  • Conduct employee onboarding and new hire orientation, resolve employee inquiries and complaints regarding compensation and benefits, and prepare reports and presentations relating to compensation and benefits.
  • Provide support to the Regional HR Manager in the preparation, review, and maintenance of documents in support of immigration sponsorship requests and act as a liaison between employees and external immigration attorneys.

Requirements:
  • Two years of current work experience related to HR with an emphasis on compensation in a corporate environment, including job evaluation and related best practices, compensation analysis, and design and oversight of all programs, processes, and guidelines related to compensation management.
  • Bachelor's Degree in an HR, Business, or related field, or four years of recent experience relevant to HR or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to partner with different level stakeholders to drive HR and business initiatives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others, analyze statistical and financial data, and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Experience with process improvement and/or business analysis to provide business solutions, utmost professional discretion, and the ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, proficient in Microsoft Office, and advanced skill in Excel.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws, guidelines, and other applicable local, state, and federal laws, including wage and hour regulations and compensation principles.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and proven strength in project management, exceptional time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, combined with the ability to engage and influence, and ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to read, analyze, evaluate, and summarize technical information or statistical data, work independently with limited supervision, multi-task, and possess strong initiative, think logically, establish and follow procedures, instructions, and make sound decisions, and exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current SHRM Certification (PHR, SPHR, or GPHR).
  • Strong vendor management experience.
  • Data analytics and data modeling.
  • Prior strategic-level work experience.
  • Experience using market pricing tools, such as MarketPay.
  • Experience developing metrics and dashboards to support business goals.
  • Experience working with immigration processes for employees.

Physical Requirements:
  • The employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear.
  • The employee is continuously required to sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Supervision Received and Exercised: Receives direct supervision from the Regional HR Manager. Does not exercise supervision over any other position.

Conditions:
  • Indoors office - Exposed to controlled temperature and office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
