About the Opportunity

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as the Director of Functional Neurosurgery. This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary neurosurgeon to lead and develop a comprehensive functional neurosurgery program at UT Dell Medical School and Ascension Texas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Lead and develop a comprehensive functional neurosurgery program that includes 2 focus hospitals in Central Austin.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with members of the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry to develop a robust multidisciplinary functional neurosurgery practice.
  • Technology and Resources: Collaborate on evaluation and implementation of new functional neurosurgery technologies and resources.
  • Metrics and Outcomes: Review and maintain appropriate metrics and outcomes for functional neurosurgery based on national benchmarks.
  • Research: Participate in research programs in collaboration with clinical and translational research partners that leads to extramural funding and helps to advance the field.
  • Education and Training: Train and mentor medical students, residents and fellows on clinical management, models of care, research and education in functional disorders.
  • Program Assessment and Development: Work with the department chair, director of clinical operations and school and hospital leadership to assess the functional program needs and relevant faculty and staff recruitments.
Qualifications
  • Medical Degree: Medical Degree from an LCME accredited medical school.
  • Neurosurgical Residency: Successful completion of training in an ACGME accredited neurosurgical residency.
  • Board Certification: Current board certification or tracking towards board certification by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
  • Functional Neurosurgery Fellowship: Successful completion of accredited functional neurosurgery fellowship or equivalent.
  • Credentialing and Privileging: Meet applicable credentialing and privileging standards for neurosurgery.
  • Clinical Teaching and Communication Skills: Demonstrated experience of clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence, possess tenacity, self-motivation and initiative necessary to drive the development of new and maintenance of established programs, and have a track record of being able to lead, direct, and influence a team and history of positive and productive teamwork.
  • Academic Appointment: Qualified for appointment as assistant or associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Collaboration with Clinician Specialists: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation and other clinician specialists in a comprehensive functional program.
  • Experience in Multidisciplinary Teams: Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team and program.
