Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation and Controls Engineer to join our team at Impulse Space. As a key member of our Propulsion Engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and commissioning industrial machinery and systems for R&D, test, and production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own all aspects of equipment design from concept to commissioning, ensuring seamless integration with our fast-paced and agile team.
  • Generate necessary schematics and documentation for electrical and fluid systems in EPlan, adhering to required standards.
  • Architect, write, and debug software for PLCs in TwinCAT, ensuring maintainability and scalability.
  • Program various industrial controls hardware, including VFDs, motor starters, PLCs, and other devices.
  • Select application-specific hardware, such as circuit protection, VFDs, motion systems, and robots.
  • Develop HMIs that are user-friendly, functional, and suitable for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with end-users to ensure equipment meets design intent and requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in a relevant field, such as manufacturing, test, or R&D.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience working with PLC systems.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience working on control systems and industrial machines.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience working on industrial safety systems.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Object-oriented programming in structured text per IEC.
  • Schematic design with EPlan.
  • 3D control panel design with EPlan ProPanel.
  • Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of ISO 13849, ANSI B11, or IEC 61508 safety standards.
  • Knowledge of UL508A, NFPA 70, NFPA 79 standards.
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, IO-Link, etc.
  • Experience working with external vendors and manufacturers for sourcing hardware and solutions.
  • Experience with hazard risk assessments and mitigation plans.
Additional Information

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, full-time hires may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision, and dental coverage, as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
