Position Overview

The role of a Cook Supervisor within the Bureau of Prisons is pivotal in creating a safe and rehabilitative environment. This position is essential in preparing individuals for their reintegration into society through effective culinary training and supervision.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cook Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of 25-30 inmate workers engaged in various culinary tasks, including cooking, baking, and food preparation. Your duties will include:
  • Providing continuous training to inmate workers to enhance their skills in food production, presentation, and sanitation.
  • Managing the receiving, storage, and distribution of food and related supplies.
  • Ensuring adherence to security protocols, including key control and routine contraband searches.


Maintaining the security of the institution is paramount, and all staff members share this responsibility.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate sufficient training and experience in culinary operations. Key qualifications include:
  • Proven ability to supervise and manage a diverse team.
  • Expertise in large-scale food preparation and knowledge of dietary restrictions.
  • Possession of an approved Food Protection Manager Certification from an accredited provider.
