Job Summary

The City of Cambridge is seeking a skilled Park Maintenance Crafts Worker/Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a key member of our parks department, you will be responsible for maintaining and caring for our recreation areas, athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Manual and Skilled Tasks: Plant, seed, rake, fertilize, grade, cut, water, and trim fields and park areas.
  • Operate Heavy Equipment: Perform skilled mechanical repair on power mowers, tractors, and other equipment.
  • Maintain and Repair Play Equipment: Maintain and repair play equipment and outdoor furnishings.
  • Perform General Duties: Perform other general duties such as painting, carpentry, masonry, trimming trees and bushes, setting up events, and lining athletic fields.
  • Operate Motor Equipment: Operate motor equipment in connection with such duties, including pickup trucks, trailers, and small pieces of equipment (tractors, mowers). Also operate vehicles with a rated capacity of 26,001 pounds when required.
  • Perform Semi-Skilled and Unskilled Manual Tasks: Perform other semi-skilled and unskilled manual tasks necessary for performance of work.
  • Supervise Crew Members: May supervise a small crew of workers at a lower skill level such as laborers, helpers, and maintenance persons.
  • Adhere to Safety Policies: Employee is required to adhere to all safety and dress code policies.
  • Perform Emergency Duties: Perform other duties as required from time to time, including snow and other inclement weather or emergency duties.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 Years of Experience: A minimum of 2 years demonstrated work experience in maintenance & care of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks & playgrounds.
  • Commercial Driver's License: Must possess a current and valid Commercial Driver's License Classification B.
  • Department of Transportation Medical Certification: All CDL candidates must provide a copy of valid Department of Transportation medical certification.
  • Satisfactory Driving Record: Must possess a satisfactory driving record.
  • FMCSA Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse: All CDL candidates must register with the FMCSA Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Internal Applicants: Internal applicants must have a permanent civil service status.
