The Project Superintendent plays a critical role in overseeing and managing all day-to-day job site activities, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and effective management of trade partners.

- Report problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions.
- Establish effective working relationships with clients, consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, and Hernandez Construction team members.
- Request advice and assistance from the General Superintendent on matters pertaining to materials, sequencing, scheduling, and personnel.
- Develop a start-up schedule with the Project Manager and send it to the Project Executive and General Superintendent for review.
- Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field.
- Collaborate with preconstruction and project management in establishing and implementing the Project Schedule based on project contracts and subcontractor input.
- Maintain the schedule and ensure work performed meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Update the Project Schedule monthly.
- Provide a progress report with a three-week look ahead of schedule to the Project Manager and field staff.
- Ensure all subcontractors participate in a safety pre-construction meeting prior to starting work on the project.
- Ensure all subcontractors have a full set of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on the project, as well as their site-specific safety plan and current insurance certificate or OCIP/CCIP enrollment ID.
- Review the project daily to ensure all activities are being performed in accordance with OSHA and governing requirements and the project site-specific safety plan.
- Review safety reports and injury data to assess safety performance on assigned projects.
- Ensure project(s) are budgeted and staffed appropriately to support safety programs.
- Communicate clear expectations for safety to project teams.
- Adhere to all Hernandez Construction Safety program requirements.
- Ensure all pertinent benchmarks for the project are established and inserted into the baseline schedule.
- Ensure all appropriate individuals adhere to Hernandez Construction Quality Standards.
- Ensure all initial mock-ups and baseline work scopes are signed off and utilized as the Quality Benchmark throughout the project.
- Ensure inspections are approved, documented, and communicated to the project team.
- Manage site pre-construction, including pre-construction survey, job site utilization, and staging plans.
- Mobilize the field office and maintain the job site to Hernandez Construction standards.
- Organize documentation of the job site for easy access and review.
- Manage subcontractor performance to quality and ethical standards.
- Work with the PM to identify and resolve personnel issues and construction process revisions.
- Manage all phases of the construction process, including documenting and reporting site activities and progress, managing excavations, and assisting with the Job Site Utilization Plan.
- Attend project turnover, mobilization, and project coordination meetings.
- Attend/chair safety pre-construction meetings.
- Attend/chair weekly foreman and safety meetings.
- Attend/chair monthly schedule review meetings.
- Attend closeout meetings.
- Attend owner meetings.
- Attend/chair subcontractor meetings and any others necessary to monitor and manage the project.
- Complete and implement construction office checklists, including emergency phone lists.
- Complete daily reports and maintain logs of key activities, files, and shop drawings.
- Manage the quality and condition of all material deliveries.
- Maintain required safety reporting and all other required files to Hernandez Construction standards.
- Ensure as-built working drawings are maintained, as well as the current drawing log and revision log, communicating this to subcontractors.
- Manage subcontractor closeout, transfer of utilities, owner training, work list, and punch list.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable discipline and experience relative to project size/scope and/or experience in related construction fields.
- The ability to manage and embrace change, responding and adapting to new processes and new ways of looking at old problems.
- Excellent team development skills and leadership abilities.
- Strong ability to partner with the Project Manager and staff.
- Committed to excellence.
- Capable of dealing with ambiguity and tight work oversight.
