Description

The Automotive Procurement Specialist is tasked with overseeing all aspects related to the acquisition of non-private party vehicles for Schnitzer Steel. This role involves bidding on and purchasing vehicles from external suppliers, as well as coordinating with towing services to ensure timely delivery to designated locations. The specialist will collaborate with various departments to guarantee accurate payment for newly acquired vehicles and will engage with vendors to negotiate pricing while exploring new opportunities for vehicle procurement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate the supply of vehicles across all Schnitzer Steel facilities by actively bidding and purchasing from external vendors.
  2. Assess towing and vehicle pricing to confirm accuracy.
  3. Verify vendor payments to ensure correct amounts are disbursed.
  4. Conduct market research and network within local business environments to identify potential new towing vendors.
  5. Establish new business relationships with non-profit organizations and external fleet services through local outreach and follow-ups.
  6. Serve as the primary liaison for local towing companies when vehicle transfers are necessary.
  7. Communicate car market trends and local scrap pricing to Regional Purchasing Managers to ensure purchase prices align with market conditions.
  8. Ensure that vehicle acquisition targets are consistently met.

Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while adhering to all safety policies and procedures. Report any unsafe practices to supervisors or Human Resources.

Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated experience in vehicle purchasing through direct or indirect channels is essential.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of various vehicle types, makes, and their approximate values.
  3. A two-year degree is preferred but not mandatory.
  4. Proficiency in computer operations, including email and internet applications.
  5. Willingness to travel and drive long distances.
  6. Possession of a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
  7. Compliance with insurance requirements as per company guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  2. Manual dexterity to handle items effectively.
  3. Capability to climb and maintain balance; must possess good hearing and vision.
  4. Engage in light to moderate physical activities related to daily operational tasks.

Work Environment:

Occasional exposure to both indoor and outdoor environments with adequate ventilation. May encounter moderate noise levels typical of an office setting with computers and light traffic.
