Job Overview

The Machinery Reliability Engineer plays a crucial role within the Reliability Group, focusing on enhancing plant operations and driving reliability improvements. This position requires collaboration within a team setting and involves the implementation of best practices in reliability, as well as the development and optimization of preventive maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate equipment performance and propose enhancements.
  • Utilize data analysis techniques to devise engineering solutions for recurring failures and other challenges impacting plant operations, including capacity, quality, cost, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as a resource for sharing best practices and identifying operational improvement opportunities across the organization.
  • Provide technical expertise during the design and installation phases of projects, ensuring minimal life cycle costs and maximizing asset availability.
  • Contribute to the creation of design specifications, acceptance tests, inspection criteria, and commissioning plans for new equipment.
  • Assist in developing criteria for evaluating equipment suppliers and maintenance service providers.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and assess their applicability for enhancing reliability and performance or reducing maintenance costs.
  • Lead and engage in incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Manage risks associated with achieving strategic objectives in environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality, and production.
  • Systematically define, design, develop, monitor, and refine a maintenance plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Effectively utilize predictive, condition-based, and other non-destructive testing methodologies to identify and isolate inherent reliability issues.
  • Apply life cycle value analysis to decisions regarding repair, replacement, or redesign.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams focused on reliability improvement to ensure the reliability and maintainability of equipment and process systems.
  • Provide technical support to production, maintenance, project, and process engineering teams.
Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in enhancing the reliability of rotating equipment within the refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, or power generation sectors.

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential for effective communication of complex issues across the organization, as well as for mentoring and building consensus.

• The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of business drivers, change management, reliability processes, and maintenance workflows.

• Proficiency in the following areas is necessary:

  • Understanding of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI)
  • Experience with rotating equipment (pumps, steam turbines, compressors, blowers, gearboxes)
  • Knowledge of fixed equipment (piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers)
  • Machinery diagnostics and equipment repair
  • Component failure analysis
  • Project management
  • Reliability engineering concepts
  • Reliability data analysis techniques
  • Predictive and preventive maintenance concepts
  • Ability to utilize software tools (SAP, Microsoft Office, Meridium)
