POSITION OVERVIEW


Under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager, the Culinary Support Team Member will aid in the execution of kitchen operations, which includes assisting with meal planning and preparation, ensuring adherence to proper food safety protocols, kitchen sanitation, and maintaining safe and hygienic conditions of the facilities and equipment.

The Lead Culinary Support Team Member will take charge in the absence of the Kitchen Manager, overseeing meal service, clean-up, and task assignments as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collaborate in the development of menu plans in conjunction with delivered meals.

2. Ensure meals are served punctually each day.


3. Work alongside the Volunteer Coordinator to provide clear guidance on food services and the overall operation of the kitchen with volunteers, while educating them on safe food handling practices.


4. Assist kitchen volunteers in their tasks to meet cleanliness standards during food-related activities, instructing on appropriate attire and hygiene practices.


5. Organize and maintain the kitchen, food storage areas, and all equipment to ensure compliance with Health Department regulations.


6. Support the Kitchen Manager in overseeing food storage and handling practices to uphold safety standards in the kitchen and food service areas.


7. Foster positive relationships with volunteers, guests, and other agency personnel.


8. Contribute as a member of a cohesive team.


9. Perform weekly cleaning and maintenance of floor drains.

Demonstrate an understanding and desire to engage with diverse populations.

Ability to support the Agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of various ethnic and cultural heritages.


Willingness to embrace the principles of housing first, harm reduction, and low-barrier access to resources, which are essential to our mission at The Road Home.


Ability to establish and maintain healthy boundaries, utilizing Trauma-Informed Care as a guiding principle.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

- High School Diploma or GED required.

- Current Food Handlers Permit or willingness to obtain one within one month of hiring.

- Experience working with diverse populations preferred.

Physical and Equipment Requirements

- Ability to lift 50 pounds.

- Ability to stand and walk for two or more hours at a time.

- Ability to operate kitchen equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.

- Willingness to be an active team member.

- Ability to work within a Trauma-Informed Care framework.

- Familiarity with the Housing First philosophy.

- Ability to collaborate with community partners.

- Self-motivated and self-directed.

- Ability to accept guidance from Supervisor.

- Excellent organizational skills and strong computer proficiency.

- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations. Ability to contribute to the agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.

- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
