Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Elementary School Counselor to join our team at Springfield Public Schools. As a key member of our Department of Student Support Services, you will play a vital role in providing a comprehensive developmental guidance program that meets the academic, personal, social, and career development needs of our students in grades K-5.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic, personal, social, and career development needs of students.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students, focusing on academic and personal support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of district and community resources to support student needs.
  • Consult and coordinate with in-district and community agencies to provide support services to students and families.
  • Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school counseling program to ensure alignment with district and state standards.
Requirements
  • Masters degree in School Counseling or a related field.
  • Certification as a School Counselor by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of theories of intellectual, social, and emotional development.
  • Familiarity with philosophy, principles, and practices in school guidance counseling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in crisis management and intervention.
  • Experience with a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Familiarity with the American School Counselor Association Framework for School Counseling Programs.
