Position Overview:

  • The Surgical Registered Nurse enhances and restores patient health by executing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients undergoing invasive procedures, tailored to their age and cultural needs.
  • Responsible for executing care plans, including administering medications, collecting specimens, and providing clinical treatments.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of patient care provided.
  • Monitors vital signs and patient conditions during surgical procedures, effectively communicating updates to the care team, surgeons, anesthesia staff, and family members.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to ensure comprehensive patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and addressing spiritual and psychosocial support needs.
  • Assesses the educational needs of patients and families, delivering tailored education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Acts as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Initiates emergency resuscitation measures in accordance with adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.
  • Maintains a sterile environment and monitors the surgical field to prevent infections.
  • Adheres to Universal Protocol and participates in time-out procedures as part of patient safety initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • CNOR certification preferred
  • Completion of APEX innovations training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter
  • Completion of APEX NIH stroke scale training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter
  • EKG examination at the time of hire
  • Valid registered nurse license in the State of Arizona or a valid multistate license from a recognized compact state acceptable to Arizona
