Senior Underwriter Job Description

At Sentara, we're committed to delivering exceptional healthcare services to our communities. As a Senior Underwriter, you'll play a critical role in shaping our group health coverage offerings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze employer group experience reports to develop premium rates for large group and self-funded products.
  • Evaluate medical risk for employer groups and determine premium rates for prospective clients.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to provide underwriting support and develop proposals for clients.
  • Participate in Pricing Strategy Council meetings to review strategic account prospects and renewals.
  • Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, including the Underwriting Manual.
  • Document risk evaluation findings and maintain records for regulatory audits.
  • Produce and maintain reports to monitor and assist in renewal and new business processes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 6-10 years of experience in underwriting, with medical risk evaluation and financial analysis experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in HIPAA, project management, problem-solving, and SQL/VBA/SAS.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
