About the Role:

Caterpillar is seeking highly skilled Assembly Technicians to join our team at the Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN. As an Assembly Technician, you will play a critical role in assembling components and performing adjustments on both diesel and natural gas engines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble large diesel and natural gas engines
  • Work with hand tools, pneumatic tools, gauges, and measuring devices
  • Use specialized torque equipment and electrical testing equipment
  • Manipulate engine components during the assembly process
  • Learn the technical aspects of engine assembly, including troubleshooting and repair of in-process engines
  • Support safety, quality, and production goals of the area
  • Utilize computer skills, including Microsoft Office Applications
  • Read and interpret standard work in computer programs, engineering prints, and factory paperwork

Requirements:

  • Two years of professional job-related experience in auto/diesel/farm experience, or equivalent
  • Strong electrical and mechanical background
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime when needed
  • Flexible, self-directed individual with a strong sense of teamwork and good communication skills
  • Top candidates will also have experience as an Automotive Mechanic, previous Engine Assembly Manufacturing Experience, Technical Degree, and Engine Assembly/Disassembly/Rebuild/Repair experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, medium to heavy-duty assembly, technical environment
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and withstand frequent repetitive movement of hands with a variety of tooling
  • Ability to perform tasks on a moving conveyor under time constraints
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, work on platforms, and work at heights
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to wear a respirator
