About the Role:

The Medical Critical Care Unit is a specialized 6-bed unit that delivers extensive care to patients with medical conditions necessitating rigorous monitoring and nursing intervention.

The care provided encompasses the medical and nursing oversight of patients who: (1) experience sudden onset of diseases affecting any organ system, (2) are at risk of developing severe complications due to their acute condition or injury, and (3) face exacerbations of chronic illnesses. Patient management in the Medical Critical Care Unit includes early identification and prevention of complications, handling complex physiological issues, and providing education and psychosocial support to patients and their families. This unit caters to patients with reversible conditions requiring intensive medical treatment that cannot be administered elsewhere in the facility. Examples of conditions treated include:
  • Respiratory failure
  • Hemodynamically unstable patients needing invasive monitoring and/or close observation
  • Drug overdose in medically unstable patients
  • Multisystem Organ Failure
  • Hyperglycemia / Hypoglycemia
  • COVID-19

Therapeutic interventions in the MCCU may involve peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, and standard ventilation support. Monitoring techniques include central venous pressure, pulmonary artery, arterial line, electrocardiogram, pulse oximetry, and apnea monitoring.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Must be licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia.
  • Educational Requirements: Associate's Degree, ADN, or Diploma required.
  • Minimum Experience: At least 1 year of RN experience – Must demonstrate competence in RN I performance expectations or meet experience requirements upon hire.
