Job Summary

As a HIM Document Imaging Tech at the University of Maryland Medical System, you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely retrieval and processing of patient charts. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be essential in preparing charts for scanning and indexing, as well as performing quality reviews to ensure the highest level of quality possible. You will also be responsible for completing, registering, and filing death certifications in accordance with state regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform chart preparation and scanning functions as outlined in the HIM Prep/Scan Guidelines.
• Review images scanned for accuracy after initial scanning, identifying documents that are of poor quality and rescan as necessary.
• Perform indexing process with accuracy, ensuring documents are indexed to the correct patient contact serial number (CSN), and correct document location within the EMR.
• Review assigned electronic work lists daily and ensure timely processing of all work items on work lists.
• Validate completion and submit death certificates in accordance with state regulations.
• Perform technical processing tasks to include Release of Information coverage.
• Maintain expected productivity and quality standards, completing and submitting productivity reports on a weekly basis.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• One year of previous experience in hospital medical record department or similar medical office setting with additional experience in quality analysis or similar position preferred.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills; filing systems; ability to prioritize workloads; meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure; excellent customer service skills; general office procedures; ability to problem solve and work with minimal supervision; familiar with basic medical terminology; computer experience; typing ability; familiar with dictation/transcription systems; familiar with state requirement regarding birth certificate processing.
