As a Lead Histology Specialist within the Surgical Pathology department, you will play a pivotal role in managing and executing various medical laboratory procedures in Anatomic Pathology. This position is open to applicants with varying levels of education and experience, and we encourage candidates with HTL(ASCP) or HT(ASCP) certification to consider this opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
The Lead Histology Specialist is responsible for overseeing the technical and administrative functions of the histology laboratory. Your expertise will be essential in supervising laboratory personnel, ensuring compliance with protocols, and enhancing the overall efficiency of laboratory operations.
Primary Duties Include:
- Leading recruitment, hiring, and training processes for laboratory staff.
- Supervising the execution of routine and specialized laboratory procedures.
- Planning and scheduling work assignments to optimize workflow.
- Assisting in the development and refinement of laboratory protocols.
- Ensuring accurate reporting of lab data and patient results.
- Providing guidance on complex procedures and exercising independent judgment.
- Maintaining quality management standards and participating in proficiency testing.
- Managing inventory and procurement of laboratory supplies.
- Facilitating communication among staff, management, and medical directors.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as a comprehensive understanding of laboratory services and regulatory requirements.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a histology laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of experience in a similar role.
- Completion of a Digital Pathology course.
Licenses & Certifications
- Required: Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL).
- Preferred: Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) and/or Digital Pathology.
