Medical Director for Infectious Disease Prevention

Job Summary:

This is a highly responsible position requiring a physician with a high degree of self-direction and extensive experience in the epidemiology, treatment, and control of infectious diseases. The successful candidate will serve as the principal medical resource for the Infectious Disease Prevention (IDP) Division, providing guidance to staff, external experts, and stakeholders on issues related to infectious disease treatment, prevention, and control.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Serve as the Department's primary expert on the epidemiology, treatment, prevention, and control of infectious diseases, providing consultation to DSHS staff, public health officials, and healthcare professionals.
2. Advise the Commissioner, State Epidemiologist, and Associate Commissioner for Infectious Disease Prevention Division on issues related to infectious disease.
3. Represent the Division on committees and task forces of physician organizations as needed, providing clinical expertise to the Governor's Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response.
4. Monitor and maintain up-to-date knowledge on infectious disease medical issues, providing expert medical, epidemiologic, and other public health consultations regarding diagnostic suggestions, treatments, occurrences, risk factors, modes of transmission, communicability, and appropriate control measures for various infectious diseases.

Requirements:

Must be licensed as a Medical Doctor by the State of Texas and board certified in Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Public Health, or Preventive Medicine. Infectious Disease certification is preferred.

Working Conditions:
