Role Overview

The Decision and Infrastructure Sciences (DIS) division is at the forefront of developing scientific tools and methodologies that enhance decision-making for complex security, risk, and resilience challenges. Argonne provides a collaborative environment for interdisciplinary projects that integrate natural, social, and computer science disciplines.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design and implement methodologies to gather and analyze pertinent energy sector data, presenting findings that accurately reflect energy sector risks on federal, state, and global levels.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses to research, draft, and produce a variety of reports addressing energy security and resilience, including critical energy infrastructure.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the energy sector, representing the division to sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Identify and communicate the significance of energy security planning, response, and restoration initiatives for federal, state, and international entities.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at educating the energy sector on climate resilience strategies, collaborating with external organizations and industry groups.
  • Engage with experts across various fields within Argonne to create assessments and reports for senior government officials.
  • Collaborate with DIS and other Argonne specialists to assist government sponsors with a broad spectrum of domestic and international energy sector threats and vulnerabilities.

Work Environment

This position entails a hybrid work schedule, requiring on-site presence at the Argonne campus several days a week.

Position Requirements

  • Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI or Q/SCI clearance as mandated by federal regulations.
  • A formal education in fields such as Energy Systems Engineering, Utility Management, Public Policy, or related disciplines is required. Candidates with relevant experience in these areas will also be considered.
  • Experience collaborating with DOE program offices, DOD energy offices, and local governments on energy security and climate resilience is advantageous.
  • Extensive knowledge of energy sector supply chains and risk assessment methodologies is essential, along with experience in producing various finished products while adhering to information security protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to derive general solutions from specific issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts into accessible language for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating effective project management skills.
  • Experience in collaborative teamwork and leading independent analyses in support of projects.
