Job Summary

Boulder County, CO is seeking a highly skilled Accountant III to join our team. As a supervisory level classification, this role provides support and leadership within our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, plan, assign, direct, and evaluate the work of accounting staff
  • Establish and maintain our accounting systems in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant federal, state, and local regulations
  • Reconcile expenditures with budget appropriations and other revenue sources, making adjustments resulting from budget revisions
  • Ensure thorough, consistent, and efficient documentation of accounting transactions
  • Coordinate both internal and external audits
  • Manage general ledger and subledger transactions, maintaining supporting accounting detail records, including journals, ledgers, and cost allocation schedules
  • Reconcile account balances and control records
  • Conduct performance appraisals, advise employees, and recommend personnel actions in the areas of hiring, termination, promotion, and discipline
  • Analyze grant activity and verify compliance with grantor requirements, preparing financial reports for grantors
  • Assist the Finance Manager with annual complex budget development and management
  • Review monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, financial reconciliations, financial reports, management reports, billings, and annual tax filings
  • Assist with system upgrades
  • Coordinate audit and activities, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures
  • Analyze the internal control environment and structure, assisting with new and revised policy and procedures
  • Provide financial trainings
  • Prepare financial documentation and management reports for external stakeholders as requested
  • Prepare budgets and analyze budget to actual variance reports
  • Perform related work, as required
  • May be reassigned during emergency situations
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
  • Four years of professional accounting experience, including one year in a supervisory capacity
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • CPA designation (preferred)
