We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our Component Engineering group, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and delivering advanced technologies for the next generation of reactor plant components.
Key Responsibilities- Perform structural evaluations and assist in the design of prototype concepts and test hardware using first-principles engineering and finite element analysis.
- Quantify the performance of both new and existing component technologies to maintain the U.S. Navy's technical edge.
- Enhance mechanical design, analysis, and collaboration skills through challenging work assignments, mentoring, and in-house training programs.
- Document the results of thermal, structural, and material performance evaluations of system components and equipment.
- Develop and implement job automation, methods development, and integration with various testing communities and other engineering disciplines.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience.
- Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
- Programming/scripting experience with Matlab, Python, and/or other languages.
