Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Shipping Container Recapitalization team. The successful candidate will perform engineering evaluations in support of the design, analysis, or testing of a new radiological shipping container or shipping container support equipment.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for sponsoring test programs, performing elastic and elastic-plastic structural analysis, developing designs and engineering drawings, and performing alignment & tolerance studies (fit-up analysis). The engineer should have experience with mechanical equipment design, structural analysis, or testing.

Requirements:

  • Minimum four year BS degree in engineering
  • Active DOE L Clearance (or DOD equivalent) is required
  • Microsoft Office
  • Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, or Testing Programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical writing

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with radiological material shipping containers and/or Safety Analysis Reports for Packaging (SARPs)
  • Familiarity with 10CFR71
  • Mechanical or thermal testing
  • Alignment and tolerance studies or fit-up studies
  • Developing engineering drawings or specifications
  • Abaqus/Standard, Abaqus/Explicit, or other similar FEA software
  • Elastic-Plastic Structural Analysis
  • Structural and thermal materials expertise
  • Mechanical automations
  • Python scripting
