SAIC Laser Optical Engineer Job Description

SAIC is seeking a highly skilled Laser Optical Engineer to join our team of experts in the field of laser bio-effects and safety research. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining a variety of laser systems, from ultrafast to multi-kilowatt CW lasers, across a range of wavelengths.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and construct optical systems to deliver laser energy to specified targets, meeting customer-defined specifications.
  • Develop electronic and optoelectronic control systems for precise delivery of laser energy.
  • Perform laser beam characterization and dosimetry.
  • Generate documentation on equipment operation and maintenance, as well as optical system components and laser calibration procedures.
  • Provide training to other engineers and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
Requirements:
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, component replacement, and calibration of lasers according to vendor specifications.
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in developing LabView virtual instruments is desirable.
  • Ability to build optical systems per customer-defined specifications and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
