About Us:

The Electromechanical & Optical Systems Department at Southwest Research Institute specializes in the conception, development, design, and delivery of tailored electrical, mechanical, and optical hardware solutions aimed at serving government, industry, and public needs.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive the design, development, and execution of cutting-edge electrical, mechanical, and optical systems, as well as automated solutions customized to meet client specifications.
  • Oversee the integration of mechanical, electrical, optical, and software elements to improve system performance and functionality.
  • Provide expert leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, cultivating a collaborative atmosphere that promotes innovation and efficiency.
  • Manage complex projects, ensuring that designs align with client requirements and adhere to industry standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering division, utilizing advanced technologies and best engineering practices.


Daily and Monthly Tasks:
  • Design and create electro-mechanical components and systems utilizing CAD software such as SolidWorks, ensuring precision for low-volume production and testing.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, machinists, programmers, and technicians to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Conduct periodic visits to assess client needs, integration challenges, and provide technical solutions, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and system reliability.
  • Guide and mentor junior technical staff, offering technical support and direction as necessary.
  • Prepare comprehensive project documentation, including design files, assembly instructions, and performance analyses, ensuring thorough records and deliverables for clients.


Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering is required.
  • 10 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong emphasis on systems, robotics, controls, and automation; multi-disciplinary experience is advantageous.
  • 10 years of proficiency in SolidWorks, ANSYS, and PTC Creo; familiarity with Visual Components is a plus.
  • 10 years of demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, with a proven history of delivering complex projects on schedule and within budget.
  • 10 years of excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with diverse teams and clients.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
