Senior Structural Designer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Designer to join our team at Builders FirstSource. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for independently coordinating the design and completion of layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing, while performing simple and complex analyses to meet technical requirements and achieve customer goals and preferences.
Key Responsibilities- Customer Representation: Serve as the company's representative to customers and other third parties in the design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems.
- Design and Analysis: Independently perform simple and complex analyses while designing residential roof and floor systems and producing layouts.
- Customer Interaction: Interact daily with customers while evaluating customer needs and the technical requirements for each job. Review layouts with customers, analyze relevant information, and use independent judgment to provide expert advice and recommendations.
- Design Development: Develop and complete design details from customer concept drawings.
- Material Selection: Use independent judgment and discretion in selecting design materials to be used and produce materials list per customer needs and technical requirements for each job.
- Construction Management: Research and use independent judgment and discretion while overseeing all construction design documents, construction management, and construction contracts. Determine special notes to append to contracts.
- Job Coordination: Independently present, coordinate, sell, and follow-up on all new jobs.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively discuss changes and corrections with engineers, architects, and contractors prior to and during construction base.
- Compliance: Ensure conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes, if applicable.
- Continuous Improvement: Independently develop solutions to challenges presented by customers within budget, schedule, and project constraints.
- Job Site Inspections: Perform job site inspections as needed.
- Discrepancy Resolution: Independently resolve architectural and design discrepancies.
- Process Improvement: Proactively develop and recommend implementation of new or adaptation of existing policies, practices, procedures, and techniques.
- Training and Development: Aid in training of new associates when required.
- Quality Improvement: Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement.
- Education: Bachelor's degree. Applicable work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
- Experience: 4+ years drafting experience in a construction or building materials-related industry.
- Technical Writing: Proficient technical writing skills.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills.
- Blueprint Reading: Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural-related industry.
- Technical Skills: Tech-savvy with Microsoft Office products, AUTO CAD, and other design programs that facilitate learning in-house program with ease.
- Software Knowledge: MITEK software knowledge a plus.
