Role Summary

The Substance Abuse Counselor I plays a vital role in delivering culturally sensitive and effective outpatient treatment for individuals facing substance use challenges. This position is dedicated to providing high-quality behavioral health counseling in alignment with regulatory standards and the core values of Community Counseling Solutions (CCS). Collaboration with community partners is essential to address the treatment needs of the population served.

Supervision Structure

Oversight: This role is under the guidance of an Addictions Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not include supervisory duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments for alcohol and drug treatment and develop personalized service plans.
  • Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions while ensuring comprehensive discharge summaries and relapse prevention strategies are in place.
  • Engage in collaborative case planning with colleagues and act as a liaison for clients with external agencies.
  • Participate actively in supervision sessions to enhance professional development.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of new and existing programs in partnership with community representatives.
  • Deliver educational sessions on substance use and behavioral health to various community stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Attend relevant training and meetings to improve service delivery and organizational effectiveness.
  • Utilize agency software for managing client records and treatment documentation.
  • Transport clients as necessary to facilitate access to services.
  • Administer urinalysis tests and maintain confidentiality regarding results.
  • Report any suspected abuse and participate in required investigations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma required. Candidates must pass a criminal history background check.

Individuals in recovery must demonstrate two years of continuous abstinence.

Certifications: Must possess Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification-level I.

Skills and Competencies: Knowledge of mental health and addiction challenges is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Ability to build respectful relationships with clients and their families is crucial. Familiarity with the recovery model and confidentiality regulations is necessary.

Background Checks: Candidates must pass all required criminal history checks.

Insurance Requirements: Valid driver's license and personal auto insurance are mandatory for job-related travel.

Physical and Work Environment

This role involves working in both office and community settings, with occasional remote work. The position may require travel to various locations, including client homes. Candidates should be prepared for diverse work environments and potential challenges associated with client interactions.
